Bladen County Schools is bringing our community together for an evening of recognition, remembrance, and hope with Tackle Out Cancer on Friday, October 2, 2026, during the home football games at both East and West Bladen High Schools. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
Tackle Out Cancer will provide an opportunity for students, families, staff, and community members to stand together in support of those whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Prior to kickoff at each school, cancer survivors will be recognized and invited onto the field. Each registered survivor will be recognized by name as our community celebrates their strength.
Cancer survivors who wish to participate should register no later than Wednesday, September 30. Advanced registration will allow the district to prepare the names of all survivors for recognition during the pregame ceremonies.

As another meaningful part of Tackle Out Cancer, Bladen County Schools will sell luminaries for $10 each in memory or honor of loved ones who have battled cancer. Luminaries must be purchased no later than Friday, September 25. All proceeds from the luminaries will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The names represented by the luminaries will be published on the Bladen County Schools website, and commemorative lists will be distributed at both football games.
Superintendent Jason Atkinson shared, “Cancer has impacted the lives of many families in our community. October 2 is about much more than football. Tackle Out Cancer is an opportunity for our East and West Bladen communities to come together as one Bladen County family to celebrate survivors, remember those we have lost, support those who are still fighting, and remind every family affected by cancer, that they do not stand alone.”
While the Eagles and Knights may be rivals, on October 2, the two will be united in one fight, Tackle Out Cancer!
