Bladen Community College Opens Writing Center

posted Feb 19, 2017, 7:32 PM by Sharon H Anderson

It is with great pleasure that I announce to you the opening of the Writing Center.

The operating hours of the Writing Center will be Monday through Thursday 9:30-5:30 and Friday 9:30-3:00.

Where is the Writing Center housed?

  • The Writing Center is in Building 8 (LEC) Room 2 (Conference Room).

What do we do at the Writing Center?

  • We work with students one-on-one and in groups to help them improve their writing skills and meet the requirements for their assignments.

What do students have to do?

Can students meet with tutors virtually or submit their work online for feedback?

  • Certainly! They will only need to go to the schedule, click on online and e-tutoring and upload their papers. If they choose online, they can virtually meet with their tutors.

How can students schedule an appointment?

-          Go to BCC’s WC Online portal:

-          You will need to click on “Register for an account” and use your BCC email address to create the account in order to access the Writing Center schedule.

-          Log in using your email address and password.

-          For all appointments during Writing Center hours, view “Spring 2017 Schedule.”

-          For online and e-tutoring appointments outside of Writing Center hours (limited availability), view “Spring 2017 Online and E-Tutoring.”

-          White spaces are available appointments – click on an opening with a day and time that work for you!

-          Complete the appointment information and save the appointment.

-          An automated email will confirm your appointment.

How can students modify or cancel an appointment?

-          Log in and select the schedule for your appointment

-          Select the appointment you wish to modify or cancel

-          Make your changes then click “Save Changes” OR click “Cancel This Appointment”

The Writing Center offers three different appointment formats: face-to-face, online, and e-tutoring. Choose the one that works best for you!

Face-to-Face appointments take place in-person in Building 8 (LEC), Room 2. Please bring your draft and prompt (requirements and rubric for your assignments). You’ll receive a summary of the session and revision suggestions before you leave.

Online appointments take place through BCC’s WC Online portal. Both you and the tutor will be able to view your draft while chatting in real-time. You can access online appointments from anywhere with Internet access. The session will be saved and available after the appointment is over, so you can log in and view it anytime.

E-tutoring appointments also take place through BCC’s WC Online portal. Unlike online appointments, e-tutoring appointments allow you to upload your assignment and your instructor’s prompt. You do not have to stay online – just upload your draft and prompt, and you’re done!Within 24 hours, a tutor will review your paper and respond. You will get an email with updates about progress on your draft, and you will be able to view the feedback anytime.

The Writing Center will offer more than just appointments in the future! Look for announcements about workshops and events throughout the semester, or feel free to drop by the Writing Center to see what we’re all about.

We look forward to writing with you!
